SSEG registration in Cape Town: what it is and why we do it for you
Any grid-tied system has to be registered with the City. Skipping it risks a fine and a disconnection. Here is the process.

Small-Scale Embedded Generation registration is the City of Cape Town’s way of knowing what is connected to its grid. It applies to any inverter that can push power back, which is most hybrids.
What it involves
An application with the inverter and panel specs, a single-line diagram, an electrical CoC from a registered electrician and, for larger systems, an engineer’s sign-off. We prepare and submit all of it as part of every install.
The bidirectional meter
Once approved, the City fits a meter that measures export. That is what lets you earn credit for surplus power in summer.
